New Porsche 911 Turbo gets a bigger engine and cranks out 500 hp

There are plenty of good reasons to go to the Frankfurt motor show in September, but this seals the deal--Porsche will use the show for the rollout of the new 911 Turbo in coupe and convertible versions.
Porsche on Friday gave us photos and details on the newest 911. Here are the high points:
-- New 3.8-liter flat-six engine rated at 500 hp. The new engine is fitted with direct fuel injection and a variable vane turbocharger for more boost at lower engine rpm.
-- The seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission is an option.
-- Opt for the PDK and you get a three-spoke steering wheel with shift paddles.
-- Add the Sport Chrono package and you get displays for the launch control and sport/sport plus modes integrated into the steering wheel.
-- Porsche says the new 911 Turbo will rip from 0 to 62 mph in 3.4 seconds. Top speed is 194 mph. Yet the 911 Turbo won't get hit with a gas-guzzler tax in the United States, Porsche says.
The new 911 goes on sale in Germany in late November. We think we'll see it here in the States soon after that.
