New Porsche Boxster: Geneva 2012
Fri, 09 Mar 2012The new Porsche Boxster at Geneva 2012
We catch up with the new Porsche Boxster and Boxster S (2012 – 2013) at Geneva. Looks much the same, but much improved.
You’d expect the new Porsche Boxster to look like the old Boxster, not just because that’s the Porsche way but because we’ve already seen the new Boxster in photos and on video. And you won’t be surprised that in the flesh the new Boxster looks just the same – but better.
It looks like the new Boxster has had a personal trainer in for the last few months; it’s bigger and squatter – more aggressive without being threatening. The overhangs have got smaller and it looks sharper. The same, just better.
Inside is a similar story with more room thanks to the increase in size and more quality thanks to a Panamera inspired layout. And that’s good.
Under the skin gets better too. Despite the engine in the Boxer shrinking to 2.7 litres it manages to wring an extra ten horses to play with. It also gets more efficient thanks to stuff like lower weight (despite the increase in size), stop-start, thermal management and electrical system recuperation.
The Boxster S gets better too, with the same efficiency improvements and an extra 5 horses. Performance also improves with 0-62mph now despatched in 5.0 seconds through the standard 6-speed manual, although you can opt for a PDK on both models.
Want a bit more fun? Then opt for the Sport Chrono Package with their Dynamic Suspension mounts and Porsche Torque Vectoring with its mechanical limited slip diff.
Expect the 2012 Porsche Boxster and Boxster S to arrive in UK showrooms in the next few months at prices yet to be confirmed but thought to start at £37.5k.
