New Saab 9-3 Concept at Geneva
Sat, 12 Feb 2011Saab Concept Tease Geneva 2011
It’s been a tumultuous time for Saab, attempting to rise from the ashes of GM’s departure. And, despite initial promise when Victor Muller rode in on his white Spyker, things have not really progressed as Saab would have liked.
Sales through 2010 were below expectation and there were some teething problems with the new 9-5. Even the Saab 9-4X crossover – which holds much promise despite being a Cadillac SRX underneath its Saab skin – has been unveiled, but won’t find its way in to showrooms until later in 2011.
But things are looking up. Saab sales at the end of 2010 were much stronger; the issues with the Saab 9-5 and its ride and handling seem to have been put right, and Saab are taking to Geneva a new SportCombi, in this case the Saab 9-5 SportCombi.
As if that wasn’t enough progress for 2011, especially in comparison to the woes of 2010, Saab has issued an invite to its stand at Geneva that feature a total of four reveals. Count them: Four Saab reveals.
Now before you get too excited, let’s get some perspective. One of those reveals will be the Saab 9-5 SportCombi and two of those will be special editions of the current Saab 9-3, including a limited edition Cabriolet.
But the fourth reveal – that’s the interesting one. Assuming Saab are playing the game and the photo above is of the four reveals under the sheets, then it looks like the Saab Concept will be a preview of the next 9-3. It can’t be the much hoped for Saab 92 (too small) so we can’t see another option.
It looks like Saab intends divulging what’s actually under the sheets the week before Geneva kicks off. But if in the meantime you have the inside line, do let us know.
