New Toyota FT-1 and FT-1 Vision Gran Turismo Concept revealed

At the Detroit Motor Show in January, the impressive Toyota FT-1 Concept was revealed, with the general concensus being that it pointed firmly at a future Toyota Supra. And that thought is reinforced with the arrival of a new FT-1 Concept, ahead of a debut at Pebble Beach – and a ‘virtual’ FT-1 Concept in the guise of the Toyota FT-1 Vision Gran Turismo Concept.
The new FT-1 Concept comes complete with a new graphite paint job, but perhaps the more interesting aspect is that the interior now looks more upmarket and more appealing.
Toyota say they have drawn their inspiration from modern superhero films, with the us of subtle, high performance materials to create an interior that still has a driver-focused flow but with the Saddle Leather creating a much more premium feel.
Selene Lee, a Toyota CALTY Designer, said:
From the start of the FT-1 project, we wanted the driver to have a feeling of flow while at the wheel – to be able to focus on the road and nothing else.
In the colour studio we help create the atmosphere of the vehicle, and our aim was to ensure everything supported the driver through efficient choices. The saddle leather maintains that same ‘in the zone’ driving intention, while bringing in a more premium feeling.
The second concept from Toyota of the FT-1 is a ‘virtual’ car – the Toyota FT-1 Vision Gran Turismo Concept – which builds on Toyota’s intention that the FT-1 must be a car for the petrolhead by creating a racer for Gran Turismo 6 PlayStation which will be available for download next month.
Toyota say the Vision GT is a high-powered FT-1 – although they don’t say what is powering it – with extra cooling and additional downforce, wider wheelarches and bigger wheels and a great big spoiler and diffuser at the back.
For now, the FT-1 Vision Gran Turismo is real only on PlayStation, but the new FT-1 Concept will be making an appearance at the Pebble Beach event this weekend.
