New VW Golf BlueMotion: Paris 2012
Thu, 27 Sep 2012Volkswagen has revealed the MK 7 version of the Golf Bluemotion in Paris, offering 88.3mpg and 85g/km emissions.
Volkswagen are billing the Golf BlueMotion as a concept, but it’s heading for production and is expected to offer the same emissions and economy figures as the BlueMotion Concept – 88.3mpg and 85g/km. That makes it 15 per cent more efficient than the outgoing BlueMotion.
What the BlueMotion Concept also does is give us a first look at the 3-door MK 7 Golf (well, if you don’t count the photos we had of the new Golf GTI ahead of its reveal) and it does look more dynamic than the 5-door.
Under the bonnet of the new Golf BlueMotion, VW has tweaked the 1.6 litre diesel to deliver 108bhp and given it plenty of tech to keep fuel usage in check like stop-start and a reduction in internal friction and on-demand activation of ancillary pumps.
Key to the impressive economy is a slippery shape and VW has managed to make the Golf BlueMotion slip through the air better than before by dropping the suspension by 15mm and adding a new body kit leading to a drag figure of o.27cd. The Golf BlueMotion also weighs 63lg less than the MK 6.
We’re expecting the new Golf BlueMotion to go on sale in 2013, with first deliveries towards the end of the year, No word on prices yet.
