New Vauxhall Astra – Frankfurt details & Prices
Wed, 16 Sep 2009The New Vauxhall Astra (2010) at Frankfurt
We’ve seen the pictures of the new Astra some time ago – and had some detail – but the news from the floor on the new Astra comes in the form of price and spec. And the Astra looks like it’s placed itself pretty well.
The entry level Astra – the Exclusiv 1.4i – offers 86bhp and comes with AirCon, Stability Control and an MP3 compatible radio/Cd for £15,675. The replacement for the old Astra 1.8 SRi is the SRi 1.4 Turbo, which manages to keep the same power level – 138bhp – but thanks to the smaller engine it reduces emissions by 18% and drops seven benefit-in-kind bands – a huge plus for the company car driver, of which there are many.
Astras are available to order already in the UK, with first customer cars due in December. Not unsurprisingly, Vauxhall has chosen to ‘Big-Up’ Ellesmere Port in the New Vauxhall Astra Frankfurt Press Release – who can blame them – and has produced a fair bit of info. For reasons best known to them they sent us all the price and model detail embedded in the press release as an image, so we’ve reproduced those for you below so you can see what’s on offer.
The new Vauxhall Astra faces big competition from the likes of the new Golf and the soon to be revealed new Focus. But the UK has always been the best market for the Astra, and this new Astra deserves – on the face of it – to retain that affection from the great British car-buying public.
But we’ll let you know for sure once we’ve driven it.
