Next generation BMW 6 Series Preview
Thu, 26 Feb 2009Rendering of the next generation (2010) BMW 6 Series - a sleeker and lower car than the current generation
Not due until late 2010, the next generation 6 Series looks set to be a lower, sleeker car than the current model. In fact, it looks like BMW may have found a use for a lot of the work they did on the shelved BMW CS project, which was to be BMW’s A7/CLS challenger until the project was shelved a few months ago.
Current opinion is that the next generation Convertible will stick with the rag-top, but recent spy shots seem to show a pretty bulky roof camouflage, leading to speculation that BMW may go the folding tin-top roof with the next generation 6-series. If they do, it will end up looking even more like the BMW CS concept.
Surprisingly, the 6 Series has been a pretty big success for BMW. The M6 is a pretty remarkable car, although it’s an expensive style option in comparison to the M5. It is believed that BMW will attempt to give the next 6 Series two completely different characters. One a luxurious GT car, the other an outright supercar. No real speculation yet on engines, but it seems likely we will be looking at blown 6-pots instead of V8 or V10, such is the need for headline economy and emission figures that look good these days.
But the next generation 6 Series looks to be much prettier than the sometimes visually challenged current 6 Series.
