Nissan Cube – UK Details and Prices
Sat, 05 Dec 2009The Nissan Cube hits UK roads in January 2010
A strange little beast, the Nissan Cube. Nissan consider it to be a “unique solution for 21st century drivers” and they may be right. We reported recently that Generation Y Drivers are more interested in comfort and equipment than style and performance, and in many ways the Nissan Cube delivers. The focus is definitely on function rather than form, with its incredibly boxy exterior giving way to a ‘Jacuzzi-Style’ interior that’s all curves.
The model line-up for the Cube – at least in the UK – is extremely simple with just a sole engine option and two trim levels. The basic trim is called Cube ( so you’ll be able to buy a Nissan Cube Cube) and includes a glass roof with both a sun shade and a ‘shoji shade’, which is a bit like rice paper and lets the light through but not the heat. Also included is privacy glass, Bluetooth and Cruise Control. Move up to the Kaizen trim and you get a more than decent set of kit including SatNav, Climate and rear-view camera.
The first 100 Cubes will be ‘LDN’ special editions with a Bitter Chocolate paint job, matching suede trim, Climate, rain sensors and auto lights. The LD costs from £14,600.
Power across the Cube comes from a 108bhp 4-pot petrol with 108bhp, mated to either a manual ‘box or a CVT auto (a pricey £1200 more). Nissan will be adding a second engine option - a 1.5 diesel – to the mix in May.
Despite selling over 1,000,000 Cubes in Japan, Nissan’s sales targets in the UK are very modest at just 2000 cars a year. But I’m not so sure. This could become a cult buy.
