Nissan GT-R Nismo confirmed as Nissan opens new Nismo HQ
Tue, 26 Feb 2013Nissan has opened a new Nismo HQ in Yokohama and confirmed that there will be a Nissan GT-R Nismo flagship performance car built.
So far, we’ve had the Nissan Juke Nismo arrive and the Nissan 370Z Nismo turned up recently too as a production model for the UK and Europe – and we’ve even had a concept of a LEAF Nismo – so we know Nissan are serious about offering Nismo versions even on their least sporty models.
But the one car that really doesn’t need a Nismo version is the GT-R, yet to have a range of performance cars under the Nismo banner without having the mighty GT-R at the top of that range would seem odd. So Nissan are obliging.
At the opening of the new Nismo HQ in Yokohama, Japan, Nissan boss, Carlos Ghosn, confirmed that a GT-R Nismo is on the way for 2014. He said:
It would be unthinkable for us to develop a range of Nismo road cars without including the GT-R. The standard road car is a global supercar and the GT-R’s performance on track reflects the passion and talents of the Nismo team. The GT-R Nismo will be special and I can’t wait to drive it.
Nissan hasn’t revealed any specifications for the GT-R Nismo, but it will be based on the latest 2013 GT-R (pictured above) and be an extra model sitting at the top of the GT-R range.
With performance of 0-62mph in a scant 3 seconds and a top speed of 196mph, the 2013 Nissan GT-R is no slouch, so where exactly Nissan goes with a Nismo version remains to be seen. Perhaps they’ll be able to dial in a bit more ’joy’ and a bit less ‘computer’ to make the GT-R Nismo a real driver’s car?
But whatever Nissan do to create the GT-R Nismo, you can be sure it’ll have epic performance, even if it’ll probably end up costing up to £100k.
