Nissan IDx Nismo enters Jay Leno's Garage
Tue, 11 Mar 2014
Nissan brought one of its new IDx concepts to Jay Leno’s Garage over the weekend. Leno, in turn, brought Datsun fanatic and friend of the show Greg Elliot, who brought his 1971 Datsun 510. Leno and Miller agree that the new car looks great, and both expect it to sell well.
Leno also brings Nissan's creative design manager Giovanni Arroba to the garage to talk about the new concept.
Arroba says the IDx Nismo is closer to production than it might look. Leno does go for a ride, but they don’t do burnouts or any of the other things you might want to do with a car that heralds a return to small, lightweight rear-drive sports cars.
Of course, many features won’t make it to production, including the anodized paint, rearview cameras (instead of mirrors) and the shark nose. We hope the 19-inch, 10-spoke wheels do make the cut, however.
Once in the car, Leno and Arroba talk about the interior, the simple gauges and the well-placed A-pillars that won’t block your vision. After that Leno breaks the door pulls, eliciting quite a funny response from Arroba.
The episode ends with Leno pleading with viewers to write Nissan and tell them to build this car. We completely agree.
