Nissan Juke: The TV Advert
Mon, 20 Sep 2010The Nissan Juke TV Advert below
Yes, the Nissan Juke is a ‘Marmite’ car. It seems to polarise opinion in a way we haven’t seen before with something so mainstream. But that extreme opinion seems to be less extreme when you see the Juke in the flesh.
We’ve loved the boldness of the Juke since it first hit headlines as the Nissan Qazana Concept. It was such a refreshing change from the corporate blandness that’s crept in since wind tunnels and legislation seemed to limit the stylistic options for car makers.
The Juke has dared to be bold, and we reckon it will grab a similar slice of the super mini market to that grabbed by the Qashqai from the small family car market.
As ‘Car People’ we get asked all the time ‘What’s the Best Car?’ or, more frequently ‘What’s the Best Super Mini/SUV/Convertible…?’. And we usually have an answer – which varies depending on who we’re talking to.
And then there’s the ‘WTF’ question we get when a new car makes a statement. Last year it was the back end of the new XJ. ‘WTF is going on at the back of the XJ? we would get asked on a daily basis. The answer was that you needed to see it in the flesh. Not only that, but that it was a grower. Truth is, the back of the new XJ is a stunning design statement. And it will still look contemporary in a decade.
But now, with the XJ in the wild and people seeing for themselves just how good it looks – a Crouching Panther – the ‘WTF’ question has changed to ‘That Nissan Juke. WTF is going on? It looks like a moon buggy’. Same response; wait ’til you see it. It looks great. But it is mad.
As is the TV advert for the Juke. But we think that Nissan are trying to say that the Juke is electrifying; that it brings a city to life; that it’s cool and funky and urban and now. But what do we know?
It could just as easily be Nissan saying the Juke is a car for big, black transvestites.
