Nissan LEAF reversing record on video
Tue, 03 Jul 2012The Nissan LEAF EV broke the record for the fastest reversing over a mile at this weekend’s Goodwood Festival of Speed and we have it on video.
Last week we reported that as part of its ‘Big Turn On ‘ campaign to get the world ‘switched on’ to electric cars Nissan were going to have a crack at the world record for going backwards for a mile in a car at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Which they did.
Driver Terry Grant was persuaded to take the Nissan LEAF up the 1.16 mile hillclimb at Goodwood backwards as quickly as possible which, after removing the reverse limiter, should theoretically be as quick as going forwards in an EV with no gearing.
Terry managed to break the record on Friday and then go on to do the same again on Saturday and Sunday, ending up with a record breaking time of 1m 37.02 seconds and an average speed of 55mph.
And in the process do the most interesting – although ultimately pointless – thing we’ve seen an EV do.
