Nissan Murano Convertible coming
Fri, 30 Jul 2010The Nissan Murano Convertible - if you can believe it.
No, it’s not April Fools Day. And yes, you did read that right. According to Inside Line – who have been shouting that the Nissan Murano is going to get its top chopped for two years – the deed is done and the Nissan Murano Convertible will debut at the Los Angeles Motor Show at the end of the year.
If it’s true – and Inside Line are convinced – this will be the first Crossover/SUV/SAV with the roof chopped off – we think. Which sadly, if it sells anything at all, will give Audi a whole new direction to go with their obsessive niche filling.
I suppose if we’re logical about this there is no reason – apart from taste, handling, shake and a million other things – why there shouldn’t be a convertible SUV/Crossover. Everyone thought Mercedes had gone mad when they launched a four door coupe. They thought Porsche had lost the plot when they launched a 911 on stilts in the Cayenne, and were convinced BMW had been smoking wacky-baccy when they introduced the SUV Coupe that is the X6.
All those niche-filling contrivances of a car have gone on to sell by the bucket load. So logic tells you that there are probably enough mad motorists out there to buy in to the idea of a drop top SUV.
God help us.
