Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet: Official
Mon, 15 Nov 2010The Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet - the world's first soft-top SUV
You had plenty of notice. We told you in April that Nissan were building a Murano convertible, and in August we told you that we had confirmation from the horse’s mouth that the Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet was going to happen, and that the LA Motor Show was where we’d get to see the Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet for ourselves.
And they weren’t telling porkies. This morning, in all its glory, ‘the world’s first all-wheel-drive crossover convertible’ dropped in to our inbox. Well, an official photo, at least. Is it horrible? Does it make you want to shout ‘WTF is going on?’ at the top of your voice? Well no, it doesn’t.
Remarkably – considering an SUV convertible is so barking it should never even have been thought of, much less built – the Murano CrossCabriolet looks fine.
Fine as in ‘Won’t frighten the horses’ rather than fine as in ‘Where do I sign?’. It could have been appalling, instead of which it just seems pointless. But you have to give Nissan some credit for daring to go where no other car maker has gone before (shouldn’t that have told Nissan something?).
Still, what do we know? A sporty SUV (Cayenne). Pointless. A Coupe SUV (the X6). That’ll never sell. So why not a rag-top SUV? Car makers seem to be making money out of more bizarre stuff than a soft-top SUV, so the Murano CrossCabriolet will probably sell gazillions.
But they’re not selling them in the UK. Shame.
