Nissan Patrol (2010 / 2011) revealed
Mon, 15 Feb 2010Nissan has revealed their latest version of the Patrol in the UAE
Update 22/2/2010: We’ve now heard from Nissan UK and they say “We will not be selling the new Patrol in the UK”. Which is pretty categoric. Shame really.
The Nissan Patrol is not a car we see a lot of in the UK. Probably because Nissan don’t deem it suitable for UK buyers so no longer offer it to buyers looking for a big, rugged go-anywhere full-sized SUV. But that might change with the latest version of the Nissan Patrol just launched in the Middle East.
The Nissan Patrol is Nissan’s answer to the Toyota Landcruiser. It’s a huge 7-seat SUV with a reputation – justly deserved – as a bullet-proof SUV that tackles the most hostile of territory with total disdain. In fact you’re most likely to see a Nissan Patrol on TV news with ‘UN’ stickers on the side as it ‘Patrols’ one hostile territory or another.
In the Eco-obsessed UK Nissan probably thinks there’ll be no demand for a 5.6 litre petrol V8 behemoth, and they may be right. But Nissan have really gone all-out with the 2011 Patrol and seem to have managed to keep all the bullet-proof bits but thrown a box of Range Rover toys in to the mix. Which could make this giant a really appealing buy.
The 5.6 litre V8 delivers 400bhp and as much torque; it gets a new electronic 4WD system; 4-wheel independent suspension; hydraulic body roll mitigation; hill start and hill decent. Inside the new Patrol gets more room and a much more upmarket interior, which does tend to indicate that either the UN wants a few more home comforts or Nissan are going to market the new Patrol as a high-end SUV for all needs – not just hostile terrain.
Or maybe they’re happy just to keep the Middle East market happy with lots of gloss and toys. They have hostile territory and deep pockets. We’ll have to wait and see. But if you want more gen you can have a look at the Nissan Patrol (2010) Press Release Nissan issued when they revealed the new Patrol in Abu Dhabi (UAE) yesterday.
We have asked Nissan UK if the new Patrol will find its way to the UK. But they haven’t answered. So we’ll take that as a no. Or maybe they just don’t know.
