Nissan Pulsar price and spec announced

Want a Volkswagen Golf-sized hatchback sporting a Nissan badge? Well, you’ll be able to from this autumn, as the company launches its first mid-sized hatchback since the Almera.

The Nissan Pulsar will be the first typical family hatchback from Nissan since it took the brave move to launch the Qashqai in 2007 – and it will cost from a reasonable £15,995.

From launch, Pulsar buyers will have a choice of four different grades, starting off with the entry-level Visia. Standard equipment isn’t as horrendously sparse as you may expect – with a five-inch colour screen, steering wheel mounted controls, Bluetooth and air-con as standard.

£17,645 will pick up an Acenta model, which comes with Nissan’s autonomous braking system as well as automatic lights and wipers, and “i-Key” keyless go.

For those who like their family hatchback to be a little bit blinged up, you can buy an n-tec for £18,995. For that you get 17-inch alloys, privacy glass and LED lights. You also get a colour reversing camera and the NissanConnect 2 infotainment system with a wide range of apps.

Want nothing less than the best? The top-of-the-range Nissan Pulsar Tekna is priced from £20,345 and comes with more safety systems including the autonomous Forward Emergency Braking with moving object detection as well as lane departure and blind spot warning systems.

Customers can opt for a 115hp 1.2-litre petrol engine or a 110hp 1.5-litre dCi diesel engine. Both engines will be available with a choice of manual or automatic gearbox.

Nissan’s also promised us a more powerful 190hp 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine from early in 2015.
