Now it’s the Lexus GS F-Sport and GS 450h Hybrid being teased
Thu, 25 Aug 20112012 Lexus GS-F Sport Tease - it looks more like the LF-Gh
We expect car makers to tease us with their wares; it’s our own fault. As online media we’re hungry for news, and teases of forthcoming cars are news. Which is why Lexus teased us with the 2012 GS and why they’re now dragging that out to include the new GS F-Sport and the GS 450h.
Because all we actually got when the 2012 Lexus GS finally turned up at Pebble Beach last weekend was the North American GS 350. Which told us most of what we need to know about the basic look of the new GS – and even more about the GS 250 we’re to get in the UK – but it told us less about the GS 450h and the F-Sport pack.
So the tease is probably fair game, although we’d expect the GS 450h to look pretty similar to the GS 350, just with the addition of the ‘Lexus Blue Halo Badges’ and probably some extra toys.
We don’t expect much of a change on the hybrid setup, with a 3.5 litre V6 mated to the electric motor and sending the combined power through a not particularly pleasant CVT ‘box. A tweak or two to the output would be nice, but what would really float our boat is a proper auto ‘box. But that’s probably too much to hope for.
As for the F-Sport Pack for the GS, we’re thinking that is likely to make the 2012 GS look a lot more like the LF-Gh Concept the GS was teased with.
Looking at the photo at the top it looks like the body-coloured bar across the front grill is much less intrusive than on the regular GS, and the grill is honeycombed mesh – much closer to the LF-Gh than the slatted grill on the regular GS. We also expect bigger alloys and more butch front and rear bumpers – and maybe some tweaks round the sills.
Rumour has it that the GS F-Sport will come with more than just a cosmetic beef-up, and will also get bigger brakes and an active suspension setup. Which sounds more appealing, especially if the GS 450h gets more power and a proper ‘box.
For now, we’ll just have to wait and see.
