OnStar to test Family Link vehicle-tracking system with subscriber pilot program

OnStar is launching a pilot program for a new Family Link system that will let subscribers track their vehicle's location on a Web site.

The pilot program will gauge customer interest in Family Link. The service allows the subscriber to log in to the system and view a map with the vehicle's exact location at any time. Subscribers can also set up e-mail or text notifications to let them know the location of the vehicle.

"Our subscribers have asked us for a solution to help them stay connected to their family when they're on the road," OnStar president Linda Marshall said.

OnStar said it will invite 10,000 subscribers to participate in the pilot program.
