One Lap of the Web: Car fails, electronic plates and 3D printing cars
Wed, 12 Jun 2013
We spend a lot of time on the Internet -- pretty much whenever we're not driving, writing about or working on cars. Since there's more out there than we'd ever be able to cover, here's our daily digest of car stuff on the Web you may not otherwise have heard about.
-- The Porsche museum in Stuttgart, Germany contains the history and automobiles that have made the company what it is to this day. Take a virtual look at some highlights throughout the museum here.
-- Admit it: We've all tried showing off of our cars in public. Whether it's doing burnouts in front your friends or trying to power slide through a corner to impress your date, we've all been guilty of doing some stupid things. What we don't like to admit is when these things go wrong. See how Jalopnik rates the top-10 car fails of all time.
-- Electronic license plates could soon be headed our way. South Carolina is leading the pack in what may be a new way of labeling vehicles. This technology will allow stolen, uninsured and suspended vehicles to be easily identified by the plate having a direct connection with the DMV. Check it out here.
-- 3D printing is used to make a lot of things, but it was never necessarily known for making cars....until now. Thanks to advancements in technology, you can soon be able to re-create hard-to-find parts -- and even a full-blown plastic version of your dream classic.
