One Lap of the Web: New Transformers, home-built cars and two Mercury Marauders
Wed, 26 Jun 2013
We spend a lot of time on the Internet -- pretty much whenever we're not driving, writing about or working on cars. Since there's more out there than we'd ever be able to cover, here's our daily digest of car stuff on the Web you may not otherwise have heard about.
-- Michael Bay has been releasing the cars of “Transformers 4” for the past couple of months, and the latest one to be revealed is the Pagani Huayra (“why-ra”). We're not sure whether or not the car will be an Autobot or a Decepticon, but we do know that the fleet from “Transformers 4” is starting to look like Dubai's police fleet (which is a good thing). The movie -- no official title released yet -- starring Mark Wahlberg, is expected to hit theaters next summer.
-- We've seen some pretty good (and pretty bad) homebuilt cars, but this man deserves major kudos for building a replica Mercedes-Benz C9, the legendary 1989 Le Mans winner. The best things about it? It was made in his shed, took 16 months to build and it's completely street legal and powered by a 3.2-liter twin-turbo V6 with 370 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque. Don't be surprised if you see us starting a homemade build now, or at least try to.
-- Check out this video of the crew from EVO TV pitching the Toyota GT86 and the Ford Fiesta ST against each other. The GT86 is essentially a clone of the BRZ and FR-S, a pair of twins we love dearly, not to mention the Fiesta ST.
-- Take a look at today's “Hemmings Find of the Day”, a pair of 1964 Mercury Marauders. Along with the car that needs work, the seller is providing another one as a parts car. Talk about customer service. It's definitely a large task, but you can fulfill your restored Marauder dreams and bring it back to its glory for the seller's price of four grand.
