One Lap of the Web: The Economist talks cars, Maria Sharapova's Porsche and crazy bikers
Tue, 23 Apr 2013
We spend a lot of time on the Internet -- pretty much whenever we're not driving, writing about or working on cars. Since there's more out there than we'd ever be able to cover, here's our daily digest of car stuff on the Web you may not otherwise have heard about.
-- Have you ever seen two motorcycles going wheel-to-wheel at 200 mph in the rain? Watch this video from Lock9 featuring the Isle of Man and the Southern 100.
-- The Economist's print edition is all about cars this week, and you can check out most of it right here. Stories include self-driving cars, electric cars and future cars, including a piece about what our roads will look like in 2033. Sounds a lot like our green issue from last week. Copycats.
-- The Flat6news blog is taking a look back at the 1995 Porsche 993 Turbo coupe. Unlike its force-fed predecessors, the 993 got all-wheel drive and a stylishly sculpted rear wing.
-- At Worldcarfans, you can find out why tennis hottie Maria Sharapova has been named Porsche's brand ambassador. Spoiler alert: It's because she's hot. Also, she won last year's Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, netting herself a 911 Carrera S cabriolet.
-- Finally for Tuesday, our friends at bringatrailer.com look at a collection of five microcars being sold out of Texas. Totes adorbs!
