One Lap of the Web: The lost F-Type, a velvet Panamera and Lutz on being king
Tue, 30 Apr 2013
We spend a lot of time on the Internet -- pretty much whenever we're not driving, writing about or working on cars. Since there's more out there than we'd ever be able to cover, here's our daily digest of car stuff on the Web you may not otherwise have heard about.
-- Long before there was a Jaguar F-Type, there was the XJ41, originally conceived to be a lightweight successor to the XKE. Things didn't work out quite that way, and Autocar takes a closer look at why.
-- Sit down with actor and travel writer Andrew McCarthy as he tells all to Brett Berk, including everything from Brazilian cab rides to road trips through Kansas.
-- Matte paint is soooo 2012, don't you know? That's why this Porsche Panamera owner decided to wrap his car in velvet. You may have seen the pictures, but flatsixes.com now brings you the back story.
-- Rob Sass at Hagerty casts his vote for the coolest car names of all time. While the list is subjective, they're all better than the lame alphanumeric stew we get today -- it's hard to see MKT or A8 showing up anytime in the future.
-- The always shy and retiring Bob Lutz tells Mlive what would happen if he were king of the auto industry for a week, also offering his opinion on electric sports cars and diesel in America.
