Peugeot 508 – Price & Spec detail
Thu, 06 Jan 2011Peugeot 508. Prices start at £18,150
Three months on from the public debut of the Peugeot 508 at the Paris Motor Show – and three months before it hits the road in the UK – Peugeot has dropped us details of the model and engine range – and the all important Peugeot 508 prices – to help buyers find a reason to toddle off to their local Peugeot dealer and stick an order in.
This early – and without having driven the 508 – we can’t say if it’s a good car or not. But we have to say we’ve found Peugeots to be increasingly appealing in recent years, and the 508 does promise to be a far from bad choice.
Talking of choices, you’re spoilt for them. Picking exactly what you want in a 508 is going to be on a par with pinning down the best 911 to buy (if not quite as much fun). All told there are five models on offer – Access, SR, Active, Allure and GT – with a choice of seven engines. You can also opt for the 508 saloon or 508 SW (Estate). If you come out from the dealers having bought the model you thought you we going to, we’d be amazed.
Cheapest 508 will be the 508 Access VTi 120 at £18,150 and the most expensive the GT HDi SW Auto at £29,975. Engines are a choice of two petrols – 1.6 VTi 120 EGC with 120bhp and 1.6 THP 156 manual with 156bhp. Diesel are the 1.6 HDi 112 manual with 112bhp, 1.6 HDi 112 SSS EGC with 112bhp, 2.0 HDi 140 manual with 140bhp, 2.0 HDi 163 Automatic with 163bhp and the 2.0 HDi 200 Automatic with 200bhp.
Depending on the model you opt for you get one of two suspension setups. Regular suspension is by way of pseudo McPherson at the front and multi arm at the back. Opt for a 508 GT and you’ll still get the multi link suspension at the back but you’ll get double wishbones at the front. Which should make the handling better and the steering sharper than on the ‘lesser’ 508s. But didn’t the 407 have double wishbones across the range?
The Peugeot 508 will arrive in the UK in April.
