Peugeot Exalt Concept at the Paris Motor Show in Euro-Spec
Fri, 05 Sep 2014The European version of the Peugeot Exalt Concept
With the Paris Motor Show now looming (just four weeks away) car makers are starting to reveal new cars and new concepts heading for the French capital. Today it’s the turn of Peugeot to reveal an updated version of the Exalt Concept we saw at the Beijing Motor Show in April. The Peugeot Exalt Concept is Peugeot’s next step on from the Onyx Concept, showcasing many of Peugeots’ future design cues and technology all wrapped up in a swoopy coupe saloon that sadly will never see the light of day as a production model.
Peugeot looks to have dropped much of the ‘Shark Skin’ finish on the Beijing Concept – except the back end – and the interior gets ‘Newspaper Wood’ trim made from old recycled daily newspapers and exhibiting a distinctly salmon pink hue, and uses a version of Peugeot’s i-Cockpit from the 308 – but taken to another level – with a pair of screens emerging from the dashboard and a long centre console.
The boot has a pantograph mechanism with access to a foldaway electric scooter – the Hybrid-Kick Concept – that lives under the floor and can be used for running round the city after you’ve parked up the ‘too large for the city’ Exalt (in Peugeot’s imagination).
Under the skin there’s a hybrid powerplant delivering 335bhp thanks to a 266bhp 1.6 litre 4-cylinder petrol engine and an 89bhp electric motor, and can run on a combination of both power sources as well as each individually, all through a six-speed auto ‘box.
Maxime Picat, Peugeot boss, said:
Peugeot’s’ 125-year automobile history is punctuated by models that made a mark on their era. With the EXALT Concept, the Brand has reasserted its position and opened a new chapter. We are moving forward, resolutely, with confidence.
The Peugeot Exhalt Concept will be revealed at the Paris Motor Show in October.
