Peugeot HR1 crossover concept car (2010)

Thu, 30 Sep 2010

This is the new Peugeot HR1, unveiled today at the Paris motor show. It's a small crossover, mixing the best bits of coupe, city runaround and SUV. Sound familiar? Yep, it's sort of like a shrunken Range Rover Evoque.

The HR1 is strictly a concept car at this stage, but shows how PSA could stretch down from its existing Mitsubishi co-developed 4x4s.

The HR1 is powered by an iteration of Peugeot's HYbrid4 system, and the company claims figures of 81mpg and 80g/km of CO2.

The hybrid module follows Peugeot's format: the front wheels are driven by a 1.2 three-cylinder; the rear wheels are powered by electric motors.

It's pretty tiny, at less than 4m long. The doors are scissor-operated and open electrically. Peugeot says the styling epitomises the design of the SR1 concept car and - you know what - we're starting to get it now.

For such a short, city car sized vehicle, the HR1 has impressive load lugging credentials. Peugeot cites a 734 litre boot with the unused seats stowed away. With the rear seats in place, that shrinks to a more modest 180 litres.
