Peugeot RCZ View Top: It’s an RCZ with a Venetian blind for a roof
Sun, 03 Mar 2013Magna Steyr is showcasing its technology with the Peugeot RCZ View Top Concept featuring a roof made of folding glass panels.
The USP of the RCZ is its Zagato-esque double-bubble glass roof, a daring (and expensive) design feature for a modestly priced production car.
But what the double-bubble roof does is give a little bit of extra headroom in the back of the RCZ which makes it just about useable for vertically challenged passengers. Take away the double-bubble roof – which would almost be inevitable in a convertible RCZ – and what you have left is an upholstered shelf in the back. But Magna Steyr may have the solution – the Peugeot RCZ View Top.
The Peugeot RCZ View Top features new technology from Magna that uses folding glass and material panels to give a roof that can probably best be described as a posh Venetian blind.
The beauty of the design – especially for the RCZ – is that it has kept the double-bubble shape intact in a roof that concertinas back in a Landaulette way in just 12 seconds to sit on the back shelf, standing just 200mm high. Open-topped RCZ fun without any of the normal drawbacks.

The RCZ View Top isn’t a Peugeot project, but one from Magna Steyr – perhaps the world’s best-known automotive systems supplier – to showcase the View Top technology, so you could see a similar system turning up on other production cars.
The Peugeot RCZ View Top will be on show at Geneva next week.
