Porsche 911 gets new Sports Exhaust
Mon, 26 Jan 2009As we commented recently, the 911 is the soul of Porsche; its reason to be, if you like. Which is why the driver experience is at the heart of all that Porsche does with the 911′s development. And Porsche has added a new option to the 911 Carrera and Targa range, available from February.
The new Sports Exhaust has been developed to let the driver enjoy the aural glory of the 911 whenever desired. At the touch of a button the driver can switch the exhaust over to a sporting setting and generate some pretty stunning sounds from the new system.
Porsche launch a new Sports Exhaust option for the 911
Modified stainless-steel silencers are at the heart of the new system, and a smart set of dual tail-pipes are the visual clue. The exhaust flap on the silencers is activated by the 911′s ECU. To activate the system all the driver needs do is switch a button on the centre console to activate the flaps and unleash the glorious sounds of the 911.
Not exactly cheap at €1,610, it will however be a big hit. The option to pootle around town on the quiet and let rip in the country. Or perhaps more interestingly, frighten the life out of the odd unwary cyclist by switching the flaps on at the appropriate moment (not that we would ever advocate such a thing!).
Porsche will also be offering the new Sports Exhaust system for retro-fitting from April, but no prices on that yet.
