Porsche 918 Spyder caught high-altitude testing
Tue, 07 May 2013
The Porsche 918 Spyder first broke cover as a concept at the 2010 Geneva motor show. Since then, we've seen it again and again at various auto shows and track events. Now it's testing at high altitudes in Keystone, Colo. Model-spotter and Autoweek reader Ryan Schnell captured the car as it was being ogled by local police.
The 918 Spyder packs 770 hp, most coming from a 4.6-liter V8 making 570 hp, and also two electric motors that add about 200 hp more. One electric motor drives the front wheels, another drives the rears. A seven-speed PDK is mounted upside down to lower the center of gravity.
When the 918 hits the dealership on Sept. 18, 2013, it will carry an eye-watering price tag of $845,000, so this may be as close as you can get to it. Enjoy the pictures.
