Porsche 918 Spyder spotted in south LA
Thu, 24 Oct 2013
The Porsche 918 Spyder is nearing its customer delivery date, which means we're seeing more and more of them on public roads. Observant reader Michael Fuschi spotted an example of the new car heading south from Los Angeles. If you're wondering about the yellow car that the photos are being taken from, it's a Lamborghini Gallardo.
The Porsche 918 Spyder made its production debut in September at the Frankfurt motor show. The 214-mph gas-electric hybrid supercar delivers 875 hp from a combination of its 4.6-liter V8 and two electric motors. Twist is rated at 943 lb-ft. Power is routed through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission to either of the front wheels under electric power or all four when both the gas and electric motors are working.
The 918 will go almost 20 miles on electric power alone, and it will sprint to 62 mph in just 2.8 seconds. It takes only about five more ticks to hit 124 mph and in 22 seconds you're at 186 mph.
The 918 Spyder starts at $845,000; the optional Weissach performance package deletes weight and adds downforce.
