Porsche Carrera GT – the Video
Wed, 14 Apr 2010Porsche Carrera GT new Video below
I know. The Porsche Carrera GT is not exactly news. By today’s standards it’s not even that quick – although it still is quick, just not Hypercar quick.
But for some reason best know to themselves – our best guess is the interest shown around the Porsche 918 Spyder - Porsche has decided to take their last Hypercar – the Enzo-challenging Carrera GT – out on track in Scotland to remind us what was on offer.
The Porsche Carrera GT gets a 5.7 litre V10 with 600bhp and a quoted 0-62mph of 3.9 seconds. But that 0-60mph time is conservative. Most who have tested the car reckon the Carrera GT will manage 3.5 seconds for the 0-60mph.
The original plan was to build 1500 Carrera GTs, but Porsche decided to cut production short when US authorities changed airbag regulations. The Carrera GT wouldn’t have complied with the new regs so – with the US accounting for 50% of sales – it was decided to knock the Carrera GT on the head at just 1,270 cars.
Since then the infamous Uwe Gemballa has bastardised a significant number of Carrera GTs in to Middle East monstrosities, which makes the elegant proportions of the pure Porsche car all the more appealing.
It’s good to be reminded.
