The 2010 - 2011 Porsche Cayenne recalled for headlight fix

The 2010 and 2011 Porsche Cayenne is being recalled to fix a faulty headlight locking system which can cause the headlight to fall out.

If there’s one thing you can say about a Porsche Cayenne – or any Porsche – is that it’s well bolted together. And cleverly conceived too, which is why there’s a locking mechanism for the headlights that allows you to unlock the whole unit and pop it out to change bulbs.

We’ve never popped the headlight out on a new Cayenne, but on the original Cayenne there’s a tool in the tool wrap that lets you unlock the headlight from under the bonnet in just a few seconds. So if your dealer charges you half an hour labour for changing a bulb – query it.

But it seems the headlight locking mechanism in the latest Cayenne is potentially glitchy, so Porsche has issued its biggest ever recall with 100,000 Gen II Cayennes being brought in to Porsche workshops to fix the slightly less than 100 per cent reliable headlight locking units.

Porsche are sending out letters to Cayenne owners asking them to take their cars to their nearest Porsche dealer for the 45 minute fix, which is free of charge.

Despite not baulking at the cost of potentially fixing 100,000 Cayenne headlight mechanisms, as far as we can discover just 5 Cayennes have lost (or almost lost) a headlight.
