Porsche GT3 to launch at Geneva
Thu, 29 Jan 2009The next in line for the mid-life facelift (Gen 2) of the Porsche 911 is the GT3, following on from last year’s revisions to the Carrera and Targa.
The GT3 has had only minor modifications to its looks, instead the detail, as you would hope, has gone on under the skin. The engine has gone up in size from the old 3.6 litres to 3.8, yielding an increase in bhp – up to 435bhp. The engine also gets an updates vario-cam system and adjustable exhaust valves.

Improvement in handling (or at least more fun) has been dialled in by backing off the PSM stability management to give more flexibility and to offer more detailed adjustment for the traction control and the stability control. Also changed is the big rear spoiler, which now manages to generate twice as much downforce as the outgoing model.
The big ceramic brakes on the GT3 have been made even bigger, and a new front spoiler that can be raised by up to 30mm at the touch of a button. Exterior changes are in keeping with those on the Carrera, with LED tail lights, bi-xenons and new air intakes at the front.
All this adds up to a much improved car; more flexible and better handling, and of course more powerful. O-62 is achieved in 4.1 seconds and the top speed is 194mph. Euro prices for the GT3 are €116,947, and the car will go on sale in Europe soon after its début at Geneva in March.
