Porsche opens new Weissach design studio

Mon, 21 Jul 2014

Porsche has officially opened its new design center. Located at its Weissach development center, the facility includes interior and exterior design departments, plus a dedicated area for concept car construction.

According to Porsche chairman, Matthias Müller, the architecture of the new studio has been designed to allow the firm's "creative developers to work hand-in-hand even more methodically than before."

The new design center is one of three new buildings opened at the site, which have been built as part of a $200million investment at Weissach.

The majority of the budget was spent on a new wind tunnel, which is located right next to the design studio. Porsche claims this proximity will help reduce the time spent between "design and aero-acoustic development."

A third building – the Electronics Integration Center – brings together all of the facility's electronics R&D work, which previously was spread across twelve separate buildings on the site.

Weissach is located around 20 miles from Stuttgart. Porsche has been developing cars there since 1971, although its test track has been operating since 1962. Currently, 4,500 employees from Porsche and 1,500 workers from partners and suppliers are based at the site.
