Power hike for Porsche Boxster

Porsche has upgraded its two Boxster models, by transplanting the Cayman coupe's punchier flat six engines.

The base Cayman cabriolet – sorry, Boxster – now gets a smidgen more power and torque from its 2.7-litre unit, with outputs climbing to 245bhp and 201lb ft. The tweaks shave a tenth off the 0-62mph sprint, reducing it to 6.1sec, and improve fuel economy by 1mpg to 30.4. Displacement of the Boxster S rises from 3.2 to 3.4 litres, with the adoption of the Cayman S engine. Power climbs by 15bhp to 295 horses, torque inches up 14lb ft to 250. As a result, standstill to 62mph dips to 5.4sec, and top speed rises to 169mph. The revised line up is available now. The Boxster costs £33,170 – up £530 – while the S version is £39,160. That's a £690 increase over the outgoing model. New 19inch alloys, using the wheel design of the new 911 Turbo, are on offer, too. These cost £2290 on the Boxster, £1573 on the S model.
