Production Peugeot RCZ R revealed ahead of Goodwood FoS debut

Peugeot promised a more powerful RCZ – the RCZ R – at the Paris Motor Show last year, and subsequently confirmed it would arrive at the 2013 Goodwood Festival of Speed. Now, with the FoS kicking off today with the Moving Motor Show, Peugeot has revealed photos of the production RCZ R – painted in sporty red – and given us some proper specs.
As we already knew, the RCZ R makes use of the PSA/BMW 1.6 litre turbo petrol the regular RCZ already has, but in the R’s case Peugeot has managed to turn the wick up to 11 and delivered 270bhp.
Coupled with a weight loss of almost a sack of spuds compared to the regular RCZ, that means the RCR R can do a proper impression of a sports coupe with a 0-62mph of 5.9 seconds and a limited top speed of 155mph. That’s a full 1.6 seconds quicker than the normal 200bhp RCZ.
Amazingly, the RCZ R comes with official economy of 44mpg, but you won’t have a prayer of getting that in the real world.
Peugeot has made the RCZ R look more purposeful too with lower suspension, new spoiler at the back, a plethora of ‘R’ badges, smaller steering wheel, sports seats and even a system to pipe the right exhaust notes in to the cabin.
The Peugeot RCZ R – which will make a more public debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September – will be available in Moroccan Red, Nera Black, Mercury Grey and Opal White and go on sale in early 2014. No prices yet.
