RCA students to reinterpret classic cars for Salon Privé

Salon Privé is the rather pretentious-sounding UK concours d'elégance that models itself on the likes of Pebble Beach and Villa d'Este.

This year the event has something that really piques our interest – a design contest, judged by some of the world's top designers.

Ten Students from the nearby Royal College of Art have been tasked with reinterpreting a previous cars entered into the show for a competition named Concours of the Future.

Their work will be shown for the first time on 4 September, with judging taking place the following day. The panel of judges includes Peter Schreyer, chief design officer, Hyundai and Kia, Peter Horbury, vice president, designer of Geely Group, Giles Taylor, director of design, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, RCA visiting professor, Peter Stevens and Dale Harrow, RCA Vehicle Design programme director.

The winner will be invited to Zagato in Milan for a tour and ‘design master-class' with Andrea Zagato, while the top three will all receive a magnum of champagne. Car Design News will be in attendance to report on the results while trying to avoid people in red trousers.
