Race classes set for 2010 Monterey Historics

Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca announced Monday the classes for the 2010 Monterey Historic Automobile Races.

The event will be Aug. 12-15. The featured classes will be Formula One 1966-1983, Trans-Am 1966-1972, Stock Cars with drum brakes 1966-75 and a Bugatti Grand Prix.

The deadline for submissions is Jan. 31, 2010, and the event will be sanctioned by the Historic Motor Sports Association.

Next year will be a transition period as the Historics move from being run by founder Steve Earle and his General Racing company to oversight by Raceway officials.

Earle will be on the selection committee. Plans for beyond next year are unclear.

-- 1955-1961 Sports Racing Cars under 2000 cc

-- 1961-1966 GT Cars under 2500 cc

-- 1964-1972 FIA Mfg. Championship Cars

-- 1971-1976 FIA Mfg. Championship Cars

-- 1973-1982 IMSA, GT, GTX, AAGT Cars

-- 1981-1989 FIA Mfg. Championship & IMSA GTP Cars

-- 1959-1966 Sports Racing Cars

-- 1963-1966 GT Cars over 2500 cc

-- 1958-1963 Formula Junior Cars
