Not to be outdone by Ford's F-150 announcements, Ram on Thursday disclosed a few additions to its lineup--including a heavy-duty Tradesman model, a new RamBox and an extension of model availability for the Express model.
The Ram 1500 Tradesman, which is the basic workhorse of the lineup, will now be offered in heavy-duty trim with a towing capacity of 11,500 pounds. Payload also increases to 3,100 pounds. It's only available in two-wheel drive.
The Tradesman HD comes with the heavy-duty version of the 5.7-liter Hemi V8, making 383 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. Heavy-duty brakes, suspension components and cooling system are also included. Pricing will be announced soon.
The Express model, which is the most customizable, according to Ram, expands to include Crew Cab and Quad Cab models. The Hemi V8 is standard. Customization options include honeycomb grille inserts, a sport performance hood, a bright pedal kit, Katzkin leather interiors, heated seats and fiberglass and folding tonneau covers.
The Ram 1500 Express Quad Cab starts at $28,050, including destination. The Crew Cab model is a bit more at $30,210, while the regular-cab pickups cost $23,080.
All trim levels and some HD models will now get the option of the useful RamBox storage system. Previously, it was offered only on the five-foot-seven-inch bed. Now it also will run the full six-foot-four-inch length of the larger bed. It can hold 140 beverage cans, according to Ram, as well as fit a long-handled shovel or a fishing pole.
The price of the RamBox option has been reduced to $1,295 for 2012.
