Range Rover Evoque Sport back in the news

The Range Rover Evoque Sport is back in the news after Land Rover design director Gerry McGovern hinted at it in Beijing.
Last year we reported that a Range Rover Evoque Sport is planned after David Mitchell, Land Rover’s Evoque program director, confessed he was driving an Evoque with the 2.0 litre Ecoboost petrol engine turned up to 300bhp.
Even if David Mitchell hadn’t confessed his pimped ride it would still have been a very sensible assumption that Land Rover would add a Range Rover Evoque Sport to the range at some point. After all, the Evoque is a cracking car that feels like it can handle much more power than it currently has.
Not only that, but Land Rover has already managed to create a very premium priced car in the Evoque where the main sales motivator is style – as evidenced by the 18,000 orders they received for the Evoque before anyone had even driven it – rather than cost.
So adding a halo model or two above the current top-end of £40k (before you start to trouble the options list – nearer £50k by the time you’ve gone a bit daft) is a no-brainer, and a price point heading towards £60k is probably not too much to hinder sales.
So the Evoque Sport will arrive (as will the Evoque Convertible and perhaps a ‘Grand’ Evoque too) and probably with the 2.0 litre Ecoboost tuned to deliver 295bhp, bigger brakes and a lowered suspension.
And a suitably premium price tag.
