Redesigned 2015 Ford Focus breaks cover before Geneva motor show

Mon, 24 Feb 2014

The 2015 Ford Focus bowed online Sunday, before its Geneva motor show debut. The next big seller from the Blue Oval sports a more Fusion-like front end, along with a handful of other revisions, including the 1.0-liter EcoBoost three-cylinder engine.

Visually, there are a lot of changes in the new Focus. Besides the front end, which gets the six-sided, five-bar grille from the Fusion, the Focus gets a new pair of fog lights with chrome trim, a new set of wheels and redesigned headlights. In back, things take the same general shape; though it looks like the taillights and rear spoiler have been massaged gently.

The optional EcoBoost motor, which we've talked about before, was named engine of the year twice, in 2012 and 2013. Ford hasn't said exactly how much power the mighty mite will make in the Focus, but when we checked it out in the Fiesta, it made 123 hp and 148 lb-ft of torque. In Europe, the engine makes up 32 percent of sales in the current gen Focus, and 26 percent in the Fiesta. The 1.0-liter will be offered alongside the base 2.0-liter four, which delivers a claimed 40 mpg on the highway (a href="http://www.autoweek.com/article/20120815/CARNEWS/120809835">check out our video review of a Euro-model Focus 1-liter here).

Inside, Ford says the Focus has a clean and modern look, with satin chrome, new seat trims and an available heated steering wheel. The company added more storage space up front, and a new glove box.

On the technology front, the Focus gets a rearview camera, available blind spot indicators, a 4.2- or 8-inch screen, lane-departure warning and lane-departure assist, which will nudge you back into your lane. The Sync system is offered, with a handful of new functions.

The 2015 Focus goes on sale in the second half of 2014. Check out our video review of a Euro-model Focus 1-liter here.
