Renault Captur Compact SUV production version teased
Tue, 08 Jan 2013Renault has started the tease for their Clio Crossover – likely the Renault Captur – ahead of a debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
The booming market for compact crossovers to blat round our congested urban landscape sees car maker scrabbling to offer up a product that can take the fight to cars like the Nissan Juke, and Renault’s offering in the market will arrive at the Geneva Motor Show in March – the Renault Captur.
Before you get too excited, the production version of the Renault Captur appears to have little in common with the Captur Concept we saw at Geneva in 2011 – except for the name – and looks likely to be nothing more than a high-riding Clio 4 with added butchness.
Gone will be the huge 22″ alloys and removable hardtop, and the chance of the butterfly doors of the concept seeing life in the production version are non-existent. You can also forget the translucent dash inside and floating seats that are part of the centre console.
Instead, you’ll get a slightly more butch Clio with jacked-up suspension and probably some bolt-on plastic cladding to make it look a bit rufty-tufty.
What you will probably still get is the Renault 1.6 dCi Energy with its 8 seconds 0-62mph and 99g/km as well as the regular engine line-up from the new Clio including 1.2 petrols and the 1.5 litre diesel.
More on the Renault Captur SUV on Friday ahead of its 2013 Geneva Motor Show.
