Renault Captur Crossover revealed
Fri, 11 Jan 2013The production version of the Renault Captur Crossover has been revealed ahead of a debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
Instead of a funky urban crossover that managed to out-Juke the Nissan Juke (which is the same car under the skin) we instead get a Renault Clio with some butch bits added and a raised ride height. Which is rather disappointing.
Renault say the Captur will have a spec worthy of a crossover from the next segment up, including stuff like keyless entry, parking sensors and hill start with the option of decent connectivity and an Arkamys sound system.
Renault are planning on up-selling the Captur by offering a wide range of customisation options, from the two-tone paint job to a huge choice of interior trim and colour options and no doubt a plethora of extras too.
Under the bonnet will be the usual range of Clio engines, including the 0.9 litre three-cylinder and Renault’s 1.5 litre diesel with the promise of sub-100g/km models.
Somehow, we don’t think the Renault Captur will capture the imagination of car buyers in the same way as the Nissan Juke.
An opportunity lost.
