Renault Megane Sport Tourer Extreme launched
Mon, 30 Nov 2009Renault has introduced a new entry-level Megane Estate - the Renault Megane Sport Tourer Extreme
It sounds as if a Renault Megane Sport Tourer Extreme should be a rival for a Renaultsport, but it’s not. It’s the new entry-level package on the Megane Sport Tourer. But there’s nothing wrong with that, even if the ‘Extreme’ designation is a bit of an oxymoron (unless you think of it in terms of at the bottom extreme of the range).
For a swoopy-arsed Estate (for that is what the Sport Tourer is) the Megane offers a decent amount of room. Luggage space is a very creditable 1600 litres with the seats down – more than the square backed Focus Estate manages. And there’s good leg room in the back as well. Plus it’s far from a bad drive.
Despite being the entry-level model the Sport Tourer Extreme still offers a reasonable level of kit, with RDS Radio/CD, Aircon, ESP and front electric windows in the standard spec. It offers a choice of two engines – a 1.6 litre petrol and a 1.5 litre dCi diesel.
The 1.6 litre petrol will cost you £14,935 and the diesel £16,685, which is £1k less than the Expression and undercuts entry level models of the Focus Estate and the Golf Estate by quite a margin.
There are a lot worse buys out there for a stylish, commodious estate. Orders are now being taken with first customer cars being delivered in January 2010.
