Restyled 2014 Mazda 3 preens in Frankfurt
Tue, 10 Sep 2013
The new Mazda 3 made its first auto show appearance on Tuesday in Frankfurt. It's the first time we've seen the hot hatch since its five-city launch in June that coincided with the 10-year anniversary of the first 3. It's the third member of the family to use the Kodo design style, which means “soul of motion.”
Here in the States, the 3 will offer two gasoline engines, both with direct injection. The 2.0-liter will make 155 hp and 150 lb-ft of torque while the upgraded 2.5-liter makes 184 hp and 185 lb-ft of torque. Transmissions include the six-speed manual or the Skyactiv automatic. We drove the Mazda 3 shortly after its debut during the summer.
The 2014 Mazda 3 will start at $16,945 for the sedan with the smaller engine, the more powerful “s” models start at $24,595. Base prices are only up $245 since last year.
Fuel economy ratings are all suitably high for the small hatch and sedan. Combined estimates are near 33 mpg.
The 2014 Mazda 3 is on sale now, check out our drive review here.
