L'argus European Design Competition 2004 winners announced
Wed, 07 Jan 2004 With its 3rd design competition, French automotive magazine L'argus de l'automobile challenged design students in the European Union to express their creativity on the theme 'Imagine the convertible commercial vehicle'.With a total of 350 designs submitted, the competition was a resounding success, confirming the interest design schools and their students are taking in this forward-looking competition.
Starting out from a light commercial vehicle, the candidates had to propose changes adapted to the specific needs of their user: their basic vehicle could for example be transformed into a helicopter for delivery services, into a work platform for engineers, into a workshop for joiners. The projects showed remarkable inventiveness, and participants did not hesitate to envisage utterly futuristic vehicles.
The ten best candidates this year had the opportunity to present their project before a jury of design experts, professionals and journalists.
Gabor Magyari from the University of Budapest, Hungary, won first prize for Mag-netic, a project which was popular with the jury for its quality and creativity. He received a cheque for Euro 3000, as well as a period of work experience in Renault's design studios.
The second prize, of Euro 1500, was awarded to Johann Paquelier from Jacques Duhamel High School (Dole-Jura, France) for his project: Tatoo.
Finally, Jeremy Lial, from ISD Valenciennes (France) came third, with Gemini which brought him a prize of Euro 500.
Camille Barb from Ensaama (France) received a special prize for his project 2HE.
