Rolls Royce Ghost LWB, Ghost DHC & Ghost Coupe planned
Thu, 09 Dec 2010Rolls Royce Ghost LWB, DHC & Coupe planned
I know, you’re not exactly shocked to learn that Rolls Royce are planning on producing not just a LWB Ghost but also a Ghost Drophead Coupe and a Ghost Coupe. After all, we told you that a year or more ago when the Rolls Royce Ghost officially launched.
But Rolls Roye are now being a bit more forthcoming and are admitting publicly that “…the Ghost lends itself to new models.” Well I never. Whatever next?
Adding the extra models to the Ghost range will add even more sales to the growing order book for the ‘Baby’ Rolls Royce. With its lower starting price and a more driver-oriented experience the Ghost is flying out of Goodwood at three times the rate of the Phantom, and Rolls Royce has shifted pushing on 2,000 Ghosts this year. Blimey, even Max Clifford’s bought one.
First of the new Ghost range is likely to be the LWB Ghost. Rolls Royce will splice in 6″ behind the B-Pillar, add a new roof and a set of oversized suicide doors and make the Ghost big enough to party in. Following on will be the DHC and the Coupe, although we have no idea in which order they’ll come.
It seems unlikely that we will see a Rolls Royce EX version ( a concept, in other words) of the new models turning up at a motor show or three to herald the arrival of the new Ghosts, much more likely we’ll see the production-ready model instead. How soon? The LWB should be next year – maybe as soon as Geneva – and the DHC and Coupe in 2012.
And look out for some sort of Ghost Hybrid at some point. A 6.6 litre V12 plus electric motors on both axles, perhaps?
Warp drive, anyone?
