Rolls-Royce Wraith (2013) second teaser of 600bhp coupe

This is part three of Rolls-Royce’s pre-Geneva motor show tease of its new Wraith coupe. We’ve already seen a ghostly interpretation of the Spirit of Ecstasy figurine, and a side profile shot that revealed a resemblance to a ’68 Mustang Fastback, and now Rolls has shown the rear of the Wraith, and made a few proud proclamations about just how powerful its new super-coupe will be.

Unfortunately it’s another shadowy teaser from Rolls-Royce, in the same vein as the side profile silhouette. But through the darkness you can glimpse the wide wheelarches, large rear lights, the equally enormous twin exhaust pipes, and the thick chrome strip across the bootlid. Let’s hope the next teaser shot reveals a little more…

There’s still nothing concrete from Rolls on what’s under the bonnet either, but the Goodwood-based company says that in time gone by it referred to the power outputs of its cars as: ‘Adequate, Sir’. But with the Wraith, Rolls says it can afford to be a little more ‘explicit’. In the reserved and refined circles of Rolls-Royce that means the output of the Wraith is now: ‘More than ample’.

Hardly detailed stuff is it, but CAR knows that the Wraith (based on the Ghost saloon, itself somewhat related to the BMW 7-series) will use a twin-turbo 6.6-litre V12, boosted from the Ghost’s 563bhp to comfortably over 600bhp. And to keep apace with the power, the rear-wheel drive chassis has been re-engineered, and Rolls promises the Wraith will be its most dynamic ever model.

There’ll be two more teasers of the Wraith later this month, ahead of the Wraith being fully (and finally) revealed at the 2013 Geneva motor show in early March. Sales will commence in the fourth quarter of this year, with prices likely to start at over £220,000.
