SMS Supercars released illustrations this week of its new performance Mustang, which will start at $64,990 for the coupe.
SMS is Steve Saleen's new venture, and it is planning two main versions based on the 2010 'Stang. A 470-hp model, the SMS 460, is the “base” car, and a convertible version is $69,990.
The go-even-faster model, a 655-hp demon called the SMS 460X, will start at $85,961 for the coupe. It's another $5,000 for the convertible.
The cars will be available this summer through dealerships or SMS Supercars.
Both get the SMS 296 supercharger. The 460 offers a five-speed manual or automatic transmission and can hit 60 mph in less than 4.5 seconds. The 460X comes with a six-speed manual and does 60 mph at close to four seconds.
When outfitted with all of the upgraded parts, the Mustang is a legitimate competitor with exotic supercars--but at a lower price, Saleen says.

“When you look at that, it becomes a very good buy,” he said.
His company also sells a performance Challenger and is working on a speedy variation of the Camaro.
Meanwhile, Saleen filed a lawsuit on July 17 in a California court to stop the owners of his former company, Saleen Performance Vehicles, from using the name.
