SSC Tuatara

Tue, 26 Jul 2011

Striving to reclaim the title as the fastest car in the world, Shelby Super Cars has announced the Tuatara, the second hypercar from relative newcomers.

Designed by Jason Castriota, the all-new vehicle is a clear evolution of the company's first car, which also featured a cab-forward, large rear deck layout. This is sympathetically insinuated toward in the accompanying video.

The Tuatara takes its name from the Maori people of New Zealand, which translates as 'ridges on the back' – a direct nod toward the aero work implemented on the 275mph car. The body itself is more sculpted, displaying elements of other high performance cars. It features plenty of interesting details, including Castriota's trademark 'flying buttresses'.

In the pursuit of reducing weight and improving performance, exotic materials have been used extensively throughout the hypercar, with carbonfiber making its way into the chassis, body and wheels.
