Saab's convertible turns 25
Mon, 06 Jun 2011Another day, another anniversary. This time, it is the Saab convertible donning the proverbial party hat and counting the candles as it celebrates its 25th anniversary.
With Saab's well publicized financial difficulties dominating headlines of late, we saw it fit to look back on happier times for the Trollhättan-based brand.
The Saab convertible was introduced back in 1986. A limited run of just 400 units were produced and intended for sale in the US market. With demand for the car far outstripping supply, the convertible entered production later that year.
Since then, three generations of the convertible have spawned over 300,000 sales, helping the car become a global icon for the brand.
“This year marks a momentous occasion for Saab, which we are delighted to be celebrating with our dealerships, staff and customers," commented Charles Toosey, Managing Director at Saab GB.
“At Saab, we are proud of our heritage and innovation, which has helped to shape the design, style and performance of the Convertible over the last 25 years, turning it into the exhilarating drive which it has become renowned for.”
